Artist Statement
自由 (jiyū): Freedom
I look at the human figure as if it’s a canvas, a blank space for artwork. Many people have insecurities of their body; we modify skin and body. Tattoos, piercings and plastic surgery offer people to be more like their authentic self.
自由 meaning freedom is an ongoing portrait series showing the aestheticism and exploration of the human figure, focusing on imperfections and modifications. I focus on topics such as stretch marks, tattoos, scars, skin and body conditions. Photographing models nude, I use shadows and soft natural sunlight during golden hour, creating different moods and abstract shapes.
